Uranus the Awakener

This week’s overarching theme is the movement of Uranus into Aries. There are phenomenal acts of bravery on world stage (1), but I am going to focus in this blog on being true to one aspect of Aries, that is, by keeping it simple and personal.

Richard Tarnas first made the association between the planet Uranus and the Titan, Prometheus, in his book, Prometheus the Awakener (1995). (2)

As Uranus changes signs — after a brief stay in Aries last year from late May through early August — we are collectively responding to a deep memory of our ability to steal fire from the gods, for the benefit of mankind.

A personal revolution is at hand for each one of us as Prometheus steals fire from the gods now through the sign Aries, the sign of individuation and singularity. It will feel scary; we are at the limit of convention and security in some significant way inside ourselves. We will cross some barrier that heretofore has enthralled us.

Awakening comes as we respond to what is over the edge and just out of view. It can be experienced on different levels in each new moment, for instance, physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

We may notice this new possibility in our own beings by its slightly deviant or eccentric flavor. And by the suddenness with which it arises; we have just not seen (or felt) anything like it before. Certainly, the portal through which we are capturing fire now might have a contrary and arrhythmic feel, but that is a hint of the way forward.

Here is a poem a friend wrote this week that tells of the revolution (she is not an astrologer):

“We are fighting this revolution with Light
With love, with wisdom
Our new weapons of Choice
Telling the Truth no matter what
Honoring choices being made
Which doorways are now Open
The Phone Lines are Now Open
This Revolution of Spirit of Freedom of Love
Getting to Face the Present in Honesty
We are All Getting Stronger
More honest in Showing Up
In looking for these Angels finding the Desert
The landscape of Beauty in the Minimal
The Internet and Phone make us World Citizens
May We Deepen Our Resolve to Allow what is coming”

And here are some ideas about Uranus moving into Aries from a blog I wrote in May.

“In Aries, Uranus awakens through pure joy in the life force, courage, impulsiveness, acting as a warrior, and jumping in without thought. In Aries, Uranus awakens through a pronounced and fearless individuality. Uranus in Aries agitates and accelerates our physical activity; the conquering of new lands and spaces; heroes and leaders; the military; surgical equipment and procedures; headaches and sleeplessness.

Uranus in Aries may bring detachment from, and a different appreciation of, the experience of being alone.

Uranus can also be deviant, disagreeable, distorted, eccentric, perplexing, and extraordinary. It is where we disobey and bring disorder. Uranus rules uprisings, uncertainty, the unconventional, the uninvited, the unprecedented, and the untimely. In  Aries these qualities come to life in plain view.

Uranus alarms, amazes, and astonishes — in Aries, we are astonished by our courage.”

Here’s a beautiful view of the solar flare eruption occurring now. Expected to last for at least a few more weeks, it is a vivid picture of fire unleashed.

And, if you haven’t seen this week’s laughing baby (over 8 million have), this little fellow is making a perfect commentary on the times: His father has received a job rejection notice, and the baby is channeling the pure hilarity and joy that an unfettered Aries can bring.

Onwards!

Have a good week, one and all.

He said that the change in Egyptians was overwhelming; he felt as if he had been in prison for 12 years, not 12 days, by the amount of change he saw as the people broke through the “psychological barrier of fear.”  Watch his speech here.

  1. Thank you, Mary , for the inspirational pep talk as we approach this exciting transition. I would like to add to the spirit of hope, in case anyone out there is feeling apprehensive about the changeover. My natal moon is at 0 degrees Aries, and last summer did indeed challenge me to free myself from many unhealthy emotional attachments. Some long-simmering situations demanded to be moved front and center in my life, but they resolved themselves with amazing alacrity. Plus, I was able to give up caffeine; I was buzzed enough from all of the Uranus energy that was zapping around. To anyone else out there who has a planet in the early degrees of Aries: get some extra sleep this week, maybe cut back on the caffeine, and be prepared to be amazed!

  2. Thanks for clarifying the transit. I’ve only heard negative on this so naturally I’ve been a bit apprehensive.

  3. ascendant pisces with moon in the early degrees (2°20) of aries in house 1….am looking forward to seeing what Uranus is going to bring me, where it is going to lead me…Am expecting the unexpected :, a birth of a new identity???!!!

  4. Hi everyone,

Thanks for al the good comments..

I do think it’s important to give a positive take on things..

did you guys see the baby?

I’ve gone back there a few times, if I start to feel a little down..he’s a remedy..

  5. With Aries in early degree on my fourth house- I think back to last June when I made the move to Ashland from Iowa. The change has been exciting and challenging!

    • Hey Michelle, I have Aries on the cusp of my 4th and moved from Alaska back to my (almost)native Denver last September. We put our house on the market in May last year. Still hasn’t sold. Maybe this season? My hubby has Aries on cusp of the 8th.

So many planets making major aspects…it’s scary. All these squares! Uranus will square my natal Mars on 1st in Cap conjunct transiting Pluto while transiting mars conjuncts my natal pluto in eighth! Pluto squares natal and transiting Saturn in tenth along with Neptune there. Uranus squares the stellium of planets in Cancer in my 7th house…

      Someone tell me…will I survive???

      • Starryknight, aim higher than just survival! I believe that one of the great gifts of studying astrology is the ability to be aware of such challenging transits, and consequently make conscious choices instead of panicking or grasping at straws (not that you would be likely to do that, with Mars in cautious Capricorn!) One small example of this from my life: last summer, in addition to Uranus hovering over my natal moon in Aries, Pluto was transiting over my sun at 4 degrees Capricorn. Having seen this coming, I had examined my conscience and set the intention that I was not going to indulge in any power struggles. But seemingly out of nowhere, an acquaintance of mine started leaving harrassing messages on my answering machine, showing up at my house at odd hours-in general, acting pretty obssessive/compulsive. After a couple of weeks of this, I looked up her chart in my files to get some insight-lo and behold, her sun is at 4 degrees Cancer, so Pluto was opposing her Sun while it was in conjunction with mine, explaining why I seemed like such an appealing screen for her projected Pluto issues. From that point on, whenever she and I crossed paths, I imagined myself holding up a huge mirror in front of me, and sure enough within a week or two she had moved on…applied astrology to the rescue! Starryknight, good luck with whatever challenges present themselves to you at this time. I believe that , in astrology, you have a great tool to help you navigate through life’s storms.

  6. Hi Deb,

Welcome to Ashland (you are Michelle’s friend, I think?)

Hopefully, we’ll get to meet before too long…

    Best for now,

    Mary

  7. With natal Mercury at Aries Point trine Uranus in 12th I had a sleepless summer last year. An obvious Mercurial overdrive situation if ever there was one:).

Personally I love Uranus as I dislike things too stable. Regular major surprises keep one on one’s toes. Very excited about the future with not only Mercury in Aries but also Sun and MC.

Last summer Uranus main target was my Vertex at 0 Capricorn. Now I am hoping Uranus will concentrate on my Mercury. But with Uranus, you never know.

Happy times everybody with Uranus in Aries!

  8. Uranus in 0 Aries is conjunct Sedna, planet of the Victim, Resources and Environment, in the USUK Composite chart (formed from USA 1776 and UK 1922). As USUK Sedna is opposite the USUK Sun-SGC (Supergalactic Centre)conjunction in 29 Virgo, it denotes uprisings against US- & UK-sustained dictators and absolute rulers. The Supergalactic Centre represents supernatural or “divine” power. This explains the North African revolts, eg against the “Pharaoh” Mubarak, and the growing uprising in Saudi Arabia.

If we take the Great Pyramid as a central hub of the region (it was designed to the dimensions of the Earth, and is thus a microcosm of it), then the 30 degree latitude through it configures the USUK Sedna opposite Sun-SGC axis through North Africa, Saudi Arabia, the Iraqi tip of the Gulf, and Iran.

But while it emphasises people’s genuine uprisings against the absolutist puppet rulers of the US and UK,it may also reflect the USUK “divine” rulers’ own attempts to effect a changing of the guard in the region, for their own purposes, having anticipated the Uranus ingress and how it hits the Suns of so many regimes and/or rulers there.

So people may yet have to assert their right to choose new leaders, rather than have new puppets thrust upon them.

  9. Uranus (rebellion & change) is entering the sign of Aries (masculinity). We could thus, over the next few years, see some dramatic changes in men’s fashions. Suits and ties are an obvious anachronism, and are seen as such – but changes could go much farther than this. A cross-dressing revolution is by no means impossible. It almost happened in the 1960s – and, with Uranus in Aries, I’ve already seen signs of this happening again. Watch this space!

  10. Hi Mary,

    Excellent essay. Thank you.

Uranus and (today) Mercury are at the bendings – in square to the transiting Lunar Nodes. Neptune is now trine and sextile the transiting nodes. Uranus, on the fixed Star Scheat, is bringing matters like substance abuse (poisons) to the fore via the creative, manic, Uranian rantings of actor Charlie Sheen. [Uranus is currently in trine to his natal Jupiter, an easy slide into mania or “irrational exuberance.” He’s writing his own hype and believing it simultaneously].

We are at the tail end of the Uranus-Neptune mutual reception. What a journey it’s been! Both planets are filled to the nth degree with the sum total of the qualities that define the signs they’ve tenanted for several years. Uranus’s “encore” as it retrograded back into Pisces didn’t disappoint.

Geo and political upheavals will continue unbridled for at least the next 7 years until Uranus settles down in stolid Taurus. Let’s see what our friends born in the early 1940’s have to tell us about their Uranus Return. 84 years of hard fought wisdom and consciousness raising will bring us bittersweet fruits.

With this last waltz of Uranus through Pisces we’re watching so many of the 1929 Great Depression and World War II vets exit our dimension. I keep having this mind picture of a portal from space, like a wormhole, having been opened for sometime now. It seems there are a lot of soul crossings back and forth.

The world is spinning on an axis of knives!

    Hugs, Claudia

    • Hi Claudia (and all the cats)

You have great images, as usual..”The world is spinning on an axis of knives!”

I just got an email from a friend:

      CNN reports:

The powerful earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami Friday appears to have moved the main island of Japan by 8 feet (2.4 meters) and shifted the Earth on its axis.
“At this point, we know that one GPS station moved (8 feet), and we have seen a map from GSI (Geospatial Information Authority) in Japan showing the pattern of shift over a large area is consistent with about that much shift of the land mass,” said Kenneth Hudnut, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
Reports from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy estimated the 8.9-magnitude quake shifted the planet on its axis by nearly 4 inches (10 centimeters).

keep breathing..and all light surrounding the nuclear power plants in Japan

  11. I have been looking forward to Uranus’ transit through Aries for ages, and so now its finally here to stay, the excitement has worn off a little for me. I have Mars in Aquarius at the 29th degree square Uranus and can identify with its energy. Back in 1927 all forms of slavery were abolished, and this happened under a Jupiter-Uranus (increased-freedom) conjucntion and a line-up of planets in Libra (justice and equality).

Release from all forms of bondage could be another powerful theme. Freedom (Uranus) and independence (Aries) go hand in hand once again. I don’t think the energy bodes well for conformity or following rules, and is a little unpredictable. This unpredictable energy would be in line with Uranus’ entry into Aries and its ongoing square to Pluto in Capricorn creating some of this potentially explosive and dangerous energy of the Nuclear power plants in Japan.

  12. Tragedies, such as the earthquake in Japan, call for the world to show great courage and compassion. Uranus in Aries can help us with the great courage; maybe when Neptune enters Pisces next month there will be a sea change and great compassion will swell. All of this activity among the transpersonal planets could be a great opportunity for human beings to take our humanity up to the next level…I hope we can rise to the challenges.

  13. i am very much interested that if earth axis shifted by 8 feet (2.4 meters) then what will be effects in astrology where we are calculating our daily movements of the star by taking in to consideration of aries is 1st sign and if axis is shifted then will aries start from 8 degrees ahead will anybody explain calculation ????

  14. The disasters are not over yet. Mars/Pluto squares are death dealing aspects as I’ve pointed out in my book, True Crime Astrology which is slated to be republished soon by The American Federation of Astrologers.
Around April 11th there will be a lineup or stellium of the Sun and four planets in the sign of Aries, squared by Pluto aggravating this already dangerous situation. That’s another recipe for nuclear disaster!

  15. Thank you for the exciting forecast. I just realized why I hadn’t been myself for the last 7years, Uranus in Pisces was, though not intangible for me, certainly nebulous. I am looking forward to this ride! With Saturn on my stellium in Libra(Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Sun) I was feeling a bit weighed down by much to do with a large agenda. As soon as Uranus entered Aries though (and yes I felt the wind of it this last summer) I feel once again energetic and capable of manifesting my vision. Love the charge of the “can do” spirit!
